Question: In the current financial climate, what area in the bank should I focus on that otherwise might be ignored?
Answer:
With new laws and regulations being passed on financial products and services, banks and bank departments have been working overtime to keep up. However, these issues should not divert focus from other areas of the bank. While revising compliance issues, it is a good time to refresh employees on proper standards and policies in the workplace.
Review and update the bank's Code of Conduct to reflect any large-scale issues in the workforce.
Train new employees on the bank's rules and policies such as conflicts of interest and accepting gifts from customers.
Make sure employees who have been working for the bank for a year or more are given a refresher on the bank's policies and procedures and more in depth training on any changes.
Make sure HR is informing all employees of any changes that would directly affect personnel.
Ensure that the bank's security policies for both internal and external threats are up-to-date and tested.
Ensure that the bank promotes mutual respect throughout its departments and branches.
Instruct all staff to be aware of situations that may be considered unethical for the institution.
