Question: We have good employees, but we want to help them become even better. Do you have any suggestions to help us help them?
Answer: Every successful organization thrives because of its leader's consistency of direction and ability to motivate and engage employees. Good leaders not only lead their teams, but encourage their team members to improve.
Here are three steps you can take to better direct and encourage the team at your bank:
Develop the path - To be an effective leader, you must develop and communicate a plan that your team can execute and use as a guide for the improvements you want your employees to make. Not only must your message be clear, you must communicate what you expect the end result to be.
Guide the team - Now that you have developed a plan for improvement, don't just leave the execution to chance. A good leader will provide the training that is necessary to ensure a successful execution.
Show appreciation - Good leaders work hard for their teams and their banks and are quick to recognize individual employees when they do a good job. This could be anything from a monetary reward to a quick phone call or note. The important thing is that your employees' know their hard work is noticed and appreciated.
Being a leader is not just about achieving this year's incentive goals, but about building a strong team of employees that are able to guide the bank to long-term success and profitability.
