Inverse-color Fields for Check Fraud

Question: My organization uses inverse-color fonts to help prevent fraud, however, this design interferes with my check processing automation levels. Are there any suggestions for how I can make this less of an issue?

Answer: To prevent fraudulent and forged amounts, some business-check layouts incorporate amounts printed in reverse colors, for example, a white font on a black background. These amounts are frequently printed using exotic fonts and are extremely difficult to read automatically. Even if a standard font is used, the image quality of the amount field may be much lower than that of any non-reversed text field because of the way the optics capture process renders these fields.

Whenever a reverse-color amount field is a must, it is recommended that you use a combination of the two amount fields, with one in the reverse color and the other printed in a regular black-on-white manner. If an inverted color (reverse) is encountered on existing documents or checks, it is recommended that you define this field and identify it as having reverse color within your check processing solutions definitions. Use standard fonts and follow other recommendations to enable the reverse color field to be read successfully.
