United Bank, Fairfax, Virginia, has contacted the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) to report that counterfeit cashier's checks bearing the institution's name are in circulation.

The counterfeit items display the proper routing number of 056004445 for United Bank. The counterfeit items and authentic checks are similar. However, authentic checks have embedded multi-colored threads that can be seen on the front and back of the check; the counterfeit items do not have these threads. Copies of a counterfeit item and an authentic cashier's check (VOID) are attached for your review.
