More On The "Super Security Professional"

Several issues ago we printed part of a speech given by Hibernia Bank's Security Officer Peter Baldassaro outlining the necessary attributes of a security officer. These qualities were decided by the American Bankers Association Committee for Security Officer Certification for Financial Institutions. It was a long, detailed, complicated list of requirements.

Since that time there have been several additions to that list. The latest appeared in the August, 1990 issue of SECURITY magazine.

Tom Nagle, a corporate security director, when asked to comment on today's security position in business, said:

"I think experience in management on the broad scale is important. We also look for people with both business and computer skills as well as security background."

"If security remains totally separate from the rest of the company's functions, it is more vulnerable to cost-cutting."

"More and more, I meet security directors who tell me they are now responsible for things like meeting planning, auditing and risk management. The trend is for security to be involved in all areas of the business."

"With security staffs getting smaller, I see an ever-expanding role for contract services in security-related jobs."

Hey, Security Officer?Does it seem like Mr. Nagle has been looking over your shoulder?
