Forever Demanding Increased Compliance

In this issue, we visit the FDIC at http://www.fdic.gov If you are a state non-member bank, this site should be at the top of your bookmark list. Others should have it in the top five.

One of the first banking regulator's sites on the Internet, FDIC has maintained a Gopher server for some time. This year, the agency added a user-friendly WWW site and linked these two impressive resources. Here you will find a full copy of the FDIC's Compliance Examination Manual (a $100 value), "Financial Institution Letters" (FILs) issued since 1/1/95, and "Side by Side: A Guide to Fair Lending." For the CRA enthusiast, the corporation provides CRA exam results and its upcoming CRA exam schedule. If you're looking for a farm or a shopping center, take a look at FDIC's list of assets of liquidated banks. The best news is that everything is totally free except for the shopping centers! Hats off the FDIC for this wonderful (and growing) resource!
