HNC SOFTWARE AND THE NATIONAL FRAUD CENTER FORM ALLIANCE TO PROVIDE COMPREHENSIVE RISK AND FRAUD DETECTION PRODUCTS AND SERVICES

HNC Software and the National Fraud Center Form Alliance to Provide Comprehensive Risk and Fraud Detection Products and Services

Combined Technology Can Help Identify and Investigate Risk-Related Issues in Financial Services, Telecommunications, Insurance and Public Sector Markets

HNC Software Inc., a leading provider of high-end analytics and decision management software and tools, and the National Fraud Center Inc. (NFC), a LexisNexis Group global provider of fraud and risk management services, today announced a global alliance to integrate their technology and consulting expertise.

By combining HNC's risk suite of products with the NFC's consultative and investigative expertise, customers can better manage end-user risk and fraud at a transactional level. HNC's products enable companies to detect risky and fraudulent transactions, while NFC's products and services empower customers to fully investigate those cases.

Working together informally over the past several years, HNC and NFC now will link up to offer their key competencies for companies in the financial services and telecommunications industries. The alliance initially will focus on merging the two organizations' powerful money laundering detection capabilities - HNC's money laundering detection technology and NFC's investigative and consulting services.

"Criminals are becoming increasingly sophisticated in their money laundering tactics and use of advanced technology, making money laundering progressively more difficult to detect," said Breffni McGuire, senior analyst with TowerGroup, a financial services industry analyst. "In addition, as Web-based payment products and services expand, the opportunity for new and creative money laundering activities will continue to increase."

"True fraud prevention balances both detection and risk management services," noted James H. Values, CEO of NFC. "By combining our expertise with HNC, NFC can offer customers advanced technology that augments our global investigation, due diligence and consulting services."

"As part of our growth strategy, this alliance will enable HNC to provide more extensive fraud detection and consultation services, enabling us to expand our offerings to our existing customer base and enter into new markets where NFC has a strong reputation," said John Mutch, HNC's chief executive officer. "HNC customers know they can consistently rely on us to deliver top-quality risk management technology, consulting services and industry-specific expertise."

Included in HNC's risk suite of products is the leading fraud detection product, Falcon Fraud Manager for Credit Card Issuers, and Risk Manager for Money Laundering. Falcon Fraud Manager is a network-based predictive software system that examines transaction, cardholder and merchant data to detect a wide range of payment card fraud. It currently protects in excess of 450 million payment card accounts worldwide.

HNC Risk Manager for Money Laundering provides financial institutions a flexible framework utilizing sophisticated analytics to examine transactions and detect money laundering activity, meet regulatory requirements and manage operational risk.
