  • In fiscal year 2002 approximately $43 million in counterfeit notes were passed in the United States. U.S. Treasury

  • The use of checks by Americans is decreasing at a rate of 3% to 6% a year, due largely to increased use of electronic payments (ACH, debit cards, credit cards).   • Nigerian money offers are the fastest growing Internet fraud reported to the National Consumers League's Internet Fraud Watch program, increasing some 900 percent over the last year. This message usually comes from someone in an African country who claims to need help getting a fortune out of the country and offers millions as a reward for being able to transfer the funds to your bank account.
