Quick Getaway, Quicker Capture
John Burnett, BOL Guru
Thomas Kane's escape route was just too predictable. When he fled a Framingham, MA office of TD Banknorth on the day before Thanksgiving, he headed for the nearby train station. Unlucky for him, his description was broadcast to area police before he could board a train, and an officer raced to the station for a routine sweep.
When officer Kathy McGrath yelled at Kane, he dropped a white plastic bag that carried a "fanny" pack, rubber gloves, and a large amount of cash.
After detaining Kane, officers quickly obtained surveillance photos from cooperative bank personnel, matched them to their suspect, and placed Kane under arrest. He was arraigned on armed robbery charges two days later in Framingham District Court.
From getaway to capture, Kane was "on the lam" for an estimated ten minutes.
