Training the Trainer

Question: I'm an old banker who is a one year old trainer. I just read the training article in Volume XI, Number 8 with great interest. Since there are 12,000 of us bank trainers, are there any bank trainer training seminars?

Answer: This is one area where you really have to do the work yourself. There are places to get help - your local college is one. Check and see if there are any adult classes in public speaking, supervisory skills, or meeting planning. The American Institute of Banking and the Institute of Financial Education also sponsor courses occasionally that cover training. I realized the lack of instruction on how to train when I went into business 16 years ago, and started doing three hour and all day training courses for training officers. And I'm sure there are others besides me doing it, but I don't know of them. Perhaps our readers can help here.

Also, check the BankersOnline web page. We ran a whole series of tips for trainers there just a short time ago. I'll continue to add to them. They may all be of some help, too. And of course, talk to other financial institution trainers. They are some of your best sources.
