Bruins and Banknorth Give Back

The Boston Bruins Hockey Team, which has not played a game since mid-September when it entered collective bargaining negotiations, joined forces with United Way of Massachusetts and Banknorth in a unique program designed to help both people directly affected by stalled negotiations and local charities. For the month of December, employees of the Boston Bruins, FleetCenter and Sportservice that have been impacted by the National Hockey League lockout "donated" time to local charities and were compensated for that time. Participants in the program chose their volunteer opportunities from several agencies including the Greater Boston Food Bank, Ellis Memorial and the American Red Cross. United Way administered the program.
