The Postman Delivers

A man standing just a few minutes too long with his wallet and cash in his hand in front of an ATM in Anchorage was knocked down by 39 year old Jeffrey Turner, who grabbed both wallet and cash and ran down the street, disappearing around the corner.

Police later determined that he then rounded the corner at Fifth Avenue and F Street and entered Key Bank, where he demanded money from a teller. He grabbed what she put on the counter and ran out the door, The next customer in line, realizing what had happened, took off after the robber, yelling at him, "Stop, Thief!"

Jonathan Higgins, a mailman, came out the door of the Alaska Center and heard the yell, and saw Turner with a wad of cash in his hand toward him. Higgins dropped the mail pouch and tackled the thief, and sat on him until two police recruits writing parking tickets nearby answered his shout.The wallet and all funds were recovered - Turner went to jail - and Higgins went back and finished his mail route on time.
