Tech Alert Briefing for 7/23/2002

Bug in PHP Leaves Web Servers Vulnerable
The Computer Emergency Response Team (Cert) released an advisory today stating that PHP versions 4.2.0 and 4.2.1 are at risk from a remotely exploitable vulnerability that could crash PHP and/or the web server.

Because of the widespread use of PHP, CERT and other security companies are considering the vulnerability serious and are urging webmasters to take immediate action, even though there is no known circulation of an exploit.

Cert recommends upgrading to PHP version 4.2.2, if a patch from your vendor is not available.

Additional information as well as a link to download versionPHP 4.2.2 to correct the vulnerability can be found at the PHP site.
