We issued a cashier's check on the 6th of the month and it cleared our bank on the 15th. We were notified by a family member that the cashier's check was fraudulently obtained and endorsed. Am I correct in thinking that we have no recourse since it has been more than 24 hours since it was received and it would be considered a late return?

Can the maker of a check cash it for the payee by endorsing the back?
Example:
* Payee: Donald Duck,
* Maker: Peter Pan
Peter Pan comes to the bank on behalf of Donald Duck. Peter endorses the back of the check. Donald Duck has not endorsed the check. Peter is the maker only of the item. Can we give Peter the cash?

We sent a check out in our cash letter, and the check number was encoded wrong. That is it, nothing else.
When the makers bank received the check, they paid it. Then days later they realized that check had a stop on it. The stop was on ck# 1855. We sent the check to that bank with no check number at all. Our machines did not pick it up. They are wanting us to pay them back for the check because we sent it out without the check number, however they missed the stop too. The check suspected and they failed to notice the check number was not correct and it had a stop on it.

What is the return window for endorsement issues? Are they all the same for Missing, Irregular or Forged items?

I received a declaration of unauthorized endorsement or altered item from an institution. The check was made to three parties, however I do see that one endorsement is missing. This check was deposited in July 2016. Is the bank of first deposit (us) liable for this item 39 months later: What is the time frame for this return?

Can a business endorse a check over to another business with the same signers? Ex. Carefree Sprinkler signs checks over to Carefree Lawn.

Under the OCC's regulations can you deposit a check into the customer's account if the check is written to a different person and he or she has signed it over to the person that has the account?

My customer mailed a check to their employee. The employee had moved and someone else cashed the check. My customer gave their employee the money for the stolen check. My customer wants the bank to credit his account and return the check because of the forged endorsement on the back of the check. This took place over 4 weeks ago. It is my understanding the check can be returned up to 36 months later when dealing with forged endorsements of the payee. Is this correct?

Our customer wrote two checks to the same payee, one was dated 2/10/12 the second was dated 4/10/12. Towards the end of July, the payee notified our customer that he did not receive the checks. He signed an Affidavit of Forged Endorsement and we returned the check as fraudulent along with the affidavit. The depositing back disputed the item as a late return. Is there anything we can do now? Can we possibly claim breach of warranty?

We have been presented with a request to return funds for a forged endorsement on a check deposited here. The check in question is made payable to "wife," has a signature (which she claims is forged and that she did not receive any benefit from the check), then "husband" also endorsed and deposited a portion into their joint checking. He took cash for the rest. He has since closed the account. Would we be able to deny this claim since she did receive benefit from the check with the deposit to their joint checking? Or would we still have the liability since she claims it is not her signature?
