I was called by a political surveyiest yesterday. She acknowledged that the questions were slanted first one way and then the other. My answer to her final question was 'These are the very best men for the job of POTUS that our country has to offer?' To which she replied, 'You wouldn't believe how many people tell me that.'

That's my bottom line. I don't think either of these guys is right for the job.

on who I am going to vote for yes, but on who did better in the debate no.

Really Mccain is not my ideal candidate, but unfortunately one that I liked better than him dropped out of the race. I dont agree with all that he stands for but I do agree more with him than obama. Now say one of the other people I liked better decided to run independent, I would go that way.

Apparently, the Obama campaign is accusing McCain of having the questions beforehand. How very 8th grade of them.

11 NOW, THE ONE THINK THAT I THINK IS VERY

12 IMPORTANT IS FOR US TO HAVE SOME HUMILITY IN HOW WE

13 APPROACH THE ISSUE OF CON FRONTING EVIL, BUT YOU KNOW A

14 LOT OF EVIL HAS BEEN PERPETRATED BASED ON THE CLAIM

15 THAT WE WERE TRYING TO CONFRONT EVIL.

16 Q. IN THE NAME OF GOOD?

17 A. INTO THE NAME OF GOOD. AND I THINK ONE THING

18 THAT'S VERY IMPORTANT IS HAVING SOME HUMILITY IN

19 RECOGNIZING THAT, YOU KNOW, JUST BECAUSE WE THINK OUR

20 INTENTIONS ARE GOOD DOESN'T ALWAYS MEAN THAT WE'RE

21 GOING TO BE DOING GOOD.

The above is the One's answer to fighting evil in the world. It contains the standard matra that America is at fault --------

I did not hear that come of out McCain's mouth at Saddleback; do ou want to see the transcript? He was rather pithy and clear about fighting evil - just the right amount of nuance - zero

yeah, the "bomb the middle east, let God sort 'em out" is always a popular theme with conservatives.

I based that assessment on Pale's quotation:
Quote:
Mr. McCain said, "with all due respect" the four most liberal sitting Justices because of his different judicial philosophy.

To answer your question, TR, I hunted down the actual transcript. And found that Sen. McCain didn't actually say that. He said:
Quote:
MCCAIN: With all due respect, Justice Ginsburg, Justice Breyer, Justice Souter, and Justice Stephens.

WARREN: Why? Tell me why.

MCCAIN: Well, I think that the president of the United States has incredible responsibility in nominating people to the United States Supreme Court. They are lifetime positions, as well as the federal bench. There will be two or maybe three vacancies. This nomination should be based on the criteria of proven record, of strictly adhering to the Constitution of the United States of America and not legislating from the bench. Some of the worst damage has been done by legislating from the bench. (APPLAUSE).

Just to be absolutely clear, Sen. McCain voted to confirm Ginsburg, Breyer and Souter, so presumably he felt them to be qualified at the time.

My personal opinion, based on the information Pale posted, was that McCain objected to certain justices because he disagreed with their judicial philosophy. To me, that's a bad answer.

The phrase 'legislating from the bench' nearly always means 'made a decision I disagree with'.

Actually, Pale, this is Sen. Obama's answer on the topic of evil.
Quote:
Evil does exist. I mean, I think we see evil all the time. We see evil in Darfur. We see evil, sadly, on the streets of our cities. We see evil in parents who viciously abuse their children. I think it has to be confronted. It has to be confronted squarely, and one of the things that I strongly believe is that, now, we are not going to, as individuals, be able to erase evil from the world. That is God's task, but we can be soldiers in that process, and we can confront it when we see it.

He may have voted for them by their previous track record but now with the power that comes with being a justice he feels that maybe they are not the same people he voted in. Just a possible scenario

my post was from Pastor Warren's church; are you saying these words did not flow from the One's lips this weekend?

Ahem, once again from the full transcript.

Quote:
WARREN: OK, we've got one last time -- I've got a bunch more, but let me ask you one about evil. Does evil exist? And if it does, do we ignore it? Do we negotiate with it? Do we contain it? Do we defeat it?

OBAMA: Evil does exist.

Now, the one thing that I think is very important is for to us have some humility in how we approach the issue of confronting evil, because a lot of evil's been perpetrated based on the claim that we were trying to confront evil.

REV. RICK WARREN, SADDLEBACK CHURCH: In the name of good.

OBAMA: In the name of good, and I think, you know, one thing that's very important is having some humility in recognizing that just because we think that our intentions are good, doesn't always mean that we're going to be doing good. ` WARREN: OK. All right. Let's move on to some domestic issues. Don't give me your stump speech on these. Try to -- let's go through it.
