OK- I need a new car. Hate to drive, hate being in a car - but hate walking more!! Have it narrowed down to a Honda or Toyota (so far).

Any advice/horror stories/etc. you'd like to share?

Thank you

I miss my Toyota Tacoma 4WD very much! With a king cab, it was a truck/car that took me everywhere.

Lost it in the divorce If you buy mine from my ex...watch out for that make up stain on the side of the passenger seat. I left some lipstick in the truck and it melted....

I had a Toyota Camry for 11 years, 149,000 miles, and it was still ridin' smooth when I traded it in. I would recommend a Camry to anyone.

And that's coming from a Cowboy fan since Don Meredith was the quarterback (and a Raider fan since before the $%^*&*^$# "Immaculate Reception")!

Oh and on Toyota...I'm driving a celica. It has over 200,000 miles on it and the mechanic tells me it will easily go another 100,000. I'm changing the brakes this summer. That $300 is the most expensive maintenance I've done since I bought it new in 1992.

A Cowboy fan? I was starting to think that I was the only one crazy enough to publicly acknowledge my loyalty to the Boys.

Thank you all for your car opinions - keep 'm coming. I normally wait till the car is broken down on the side of the road (yes, I have them towed to the dealer for the trade in)so I'm trying to be an "adult" this time.

Last week I bought a new Honda Civic Coupe - sporty red with a spoiler. My former Honda now belongs to my 16 year old son. I love driving them and haven't had any problems to date with the first one and I've had it 6 years. I've been told I should be able to drive it another 6 years (or my son, that is).

I don't think you can go wrong with either. We own a Honda Accord EX-V6. Our next vehicle purchase is likely to be a Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander, Toyota Avalon, or another Accord.

Nissans are pretty good, too. I drive a '93 Altima with 139,000 miles on it. It has plenty of pep and it gets 28mpg on my commute to work everyday (I drive 40 miles one way).

I have a 1989 Honda Prelude with 180,000 miles on it. The only problem I see with Honda is their air conditioning systems stink--or they used to anyway. But if you do not live on the face of the sun like I do here in Texas, you should not let that dissuade you.

I drive a Honda Civic Coupe (EX). I have had it for about a year and a half. It has been absolutely wonderful. I live in SC, too, Cowboy Fan (and I am also a fan of the Cowboys). AC shouldn't be a problem.

I had a 1990 Honda Accord EX for 12 years, it was a wonderful car (yes, the A/C was crappy). It had 105K miles on it, and I changed jobs that would put me on the road for 65 miles a day; so I bought a new Mazda Tribute (zoom-zoom-zoom). I like my Mazda, but I loved my Honda.
We gave it to my 87 yr old grandmother to use for her grocery runs (scary, eh, she's still driving...). She loves it.

Between the lines
We had 87 Honda Accord, drove it 175,000 miles. I drove it 4-5 years, my husband drove it another 4-5 years, then my son drove it 3-4 years. We sold it when he went to college -- a little too small for 70 - 80 mph on the highway on a 4 hour drive to and from school; not to mention any breakdown would have been a nightmare for him traveling. A/C worked great the whole time, very little in maintenance costs. People down the street bought it and they are still driving it!! With the age and # of miles it still makes a great in-town car.

It is unbelievable how well that car held up!!

My first Honda was a 1987 Accord - went 287,000 miles, easy upkeep, my husband traded it for a dump truck when I was out of town at a compliance conference. So I bought a 1996 Accord - current milage 257,000 and still going strong.

The only problem with the climate control system on our Honda is that no matter what temperature we seem to set it at, it's always cold in the car in the summer.

Both makes are good quality cars, but ever since I bought an SUV I cannot stand to drive in a car, only when necessary, which isn;t often.
Just got a Chevy Trailblazer last year and I LOVE it!!!
great on gas and I rises nice, it's roomy and comfortable.
It's a keeper.

SINCE you asked...

I suggest a Honda. I have owned (way too) many cars, and Hondas have been, without a doubt, the most dependable and least expensive to maintain.

As far as temperature control goes, I live in an area where it gets down to @ 18 degrees in the winter (I know that is warm for you, Dawnie!) and 118 degrees in the summer. I was always able to get the Hondas to a comfortable temperature during the extremes.

We had 3 Accords, all purchased used. All were virtually bullet proof. One was so worn out that we sold it to a junkyard. Yet, we drove it there that morning. Air worked well on all three; one was so cold that on an August day it would throw out vapor like opening the door to a freezer.

How 'bout the Honda 'Element'? I see lots of them around these days. Someone must like them.

All this talk about cars, especially Honda's reminds me of a joke...How many angels can fit into a Honda?

All of them... the Bible says "and the angels praised Him in one Accord".

E gads you poor thing!! tee hee hee

The Celica started at 45 below 0. It gets confused at 45 above though...heh heh (ok I'm kidding...if she hears that it might take it to heart to teach me a lesson about abusing her image.) Shhhh

Actually the Tacoma did as well and it was a dream to drive on pure ice (9 months of the year here) as well as deep snow which the celica frowns upon (she's low to the ground and scoops it up on her hood...not a good thing)!

I am driving a 2001 Subaru Outback right now. It's an okay car. I mean, it drives well but the brakes squeak really bad, especially in the winter. And squeaky brakes are one of my biggest pet peeves. And I have a hard time with the fact that it's a "station wagon". My old vehicle was a Ford Ranger which I absolutely loved. As soon as my daughter doesn't need a carseat anymore, I'm getting another one of those or an F-150. She's only 2 so I have quite a wait {sigh}.

Do you know the way to ...
Drove a Civic for 7 years, now driving an Acura Integra for the past 12. They don't make 'em anymore, though..

Thought about getting a new car - no cup holders in this one and spilled one too many drinks on the front seat - but haven't found anything else I liked. Have had a lot of expensive maintenance (timing belt replacement, master cylinder repair, clutch repair, to name a few) but it just "fits" better than any other car I've driven.

One thing to look out for on Hondas, though - insurance rates. Around here at least, they're one of the most stolen cars, so insurance rates are higher than on other cars.
