A customer deposited a check into her savings account and a hold was place on the funds. After our Deposit Operations supervisor talked to the customer she stated that she had received the check through the mail for no reason but deposited it anyway.
We have verified through the other bank that the account number on the check does not exist and it is counterfeit.
This took place on 5/1/08 and we still have not received the check back yet. Our customer says she does not want the money showing on her statements since she does not have access to it. Is there anything else we can do while waiting to see when the check will be returned other that leaving the funds in the account with the hold in place.
