can you point to a time when he said it publicly before Palin was picked? No problem. From the Washington Post September 14, 2007: "I think that both General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker are capable people who have been given an impossible assignment," Sen. Barack Obama said yesterday in a telephone interview. "George Bush has given a mission to General Petraeus, and he has done his best to try to figure out how to put lipstick on a pig." Last September Sounds like he hooked at least one person... Yeah. Maybe if you look in the mirror you can remove it from your lip!

Accepting the above posters as a normal cross-section of voters I don't even think this is even close to being true. People in banking are far more conservative that the public in general, IMO.

Yet no condemnation by the One camp of the thousands of cheering worshippers for "misinterpreting" the lipstick reference.

after Palin used a lipstick reference at the RNC. That is the difference IMHO. And just because she used the term "lipstick" he can't use it anymore? And there is only one of the 4 candidates that wear lipstick Yes, but as the quote shows, this was about Bush's policies, not a candidate.

Yoss - it looks like we can't sway you, and you're not going to sway us.
Agreed?

Why lash out at the one you assume repeated the phrase for effect, but rather lash out at the lady who started it all with a speech full of little phrases all said for effect? Yeah! Why doesn't anyone see that it's Palin's fault for using that sentence in the first place?!?!?!? MC, are you serious? She used a phrase about lipstick on a Soccer Mom and not on a pitbull; she didn't call anyone names, she didn't disparage anyone with this sentence, and yet it's her fault. You are delusional. But, fwiw, I think he may have put a little jab in there to Palin, but who cares? It makes him look stupid, not her, and it is the heat of the election. Big deal. Move on and get to the real issues; enough 3rd grade stuff.

Just my two cents, but this thread appears to bear out Cheney's pithy remark that we are becoming a nation of whiners. For crying out loud, people, can we move on? Please??

I am really excited for the debates especially the VP debates. We will see how she holds up against one of the good ole boys I expect Biden will beat himself...He always does.

Pulling people out of the ditc...

radio at lunch today said that Obama apologized is his words were taken out of context, he did not mean to imply that he was speaking of Ms. Palin...
Now, how could he possibly need to apologize, Yoss already stated that no one thinks he meant anything other than he was talking about Bush's policies???

Nobody can make anyone believe something, that's very true.. One more bit of information, though: "McCain has used the lipstick phrase, too. Last year while criticizing health proposals from the Democratic presidential candidates, he said Hillary Rodham Clinton's resembled the failed plan she offered as first lady during the 1990s. "I think they put some lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig," McCain of her proposal." McCain and HRC

Of course, no one mistakes those statements, clearly about policy or a proposal, with ones that are clearly about a person...
