Are BOLers a fit group or generally overweight or obese?

During the past 20 years there has been a dramatic increase in obesity in the United States. Today, 20 states have obesity prevalence rates of 15-19 percent; 29 states have rates of 20-24 percent; and one state reports a rate over 25 percent.

Recent results of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 1999 indicate that an estimated 61 percent of U.S. adults are either overweight or obese, defined as having a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or more.

Among U.S. adults aged 20-74 years, the prevalence of overweight (defined as BMI 25.0–29.9) has increased an estimated 2 percent since 1980, increasing from 33 percent to the 35 percent of the population in 1999 (based on NHANES II and NHANES 1999 data).

In the same population, obesity (defined as BMI greater than or equal to 30.0) has nearly doubled from approximately 15 percent in 1980 to an estimated 27 percent in 1999.

BMI is a common measure expressing the relationship (or ratio) of weight-to-height. It is a mathematical formula in which a person's body weight in kilograms is divided by the square of his or her height in meters (i.e., wt/(ht)2. The BMI is more highly correlated with body fat than any other indicator of height and weight (NRC p563).

Individuals with a BMI of 25 to 29.9 are considered overweight, while individuals with a BMI of 30 or more are considered obese.

What percentage of BOLers are fit, overweight or obese? Is it higher than the National average?

My Body Mass Index (BMI)
BMI UNDER 25
BMI of 25 to 29.9
BMI of 30+

Cowboy...share! I'm trying to get a high score. I might be able to hit 100 if I work at it.

Am I supposed to do some sort of mathematical calculation to come up with my BMI? Change my feet, inches and pounds to meters and kilograms? Egads! It's too late in the day to try to figure that out! I'll just put myself down for "middle of the road..."

HERE'S a link to easily calculate your BMI - middle of the road is trending into overweight as we speak. Just enter your weight in pounds and height in inches - click on male or female.

A longer life and less hospital time at the end. That's a great prize! That is if you calculated correctly.

Then you get to divide by 2! And that makes you really svelte!

How are you feeling? I kind of miss being pg, it was fun for the most part.

I scored an 18.8 but unfortunately that does not mean I'm healthy. I need to workout more. I'm a slug most of the time. But I have a very high metabolism.

Well I'll tell you there is a huge difference between entering 6.2 for 6'2" and 74" as it calls for.

But I find my BMI improves if I wear taller shoes.

A perfect Normism for this post.

Sammy says, "What are you up to Norm", Norm replies, "My ideal weight if I were 11 feet tall"

Maria, My little German shepherd puppy has a 63 BMI!!!! (Maybe I should measure his length!) Actually we are not sure what he weights now...my husband used to hold him as they both stood on the scale, but the scale doesn't go past 300. So we'll have to wait until the next vet appt.

EGB, I'm feeling great...but getting tired again. It'll be a little Halloween Baby

Let me introduce you to the dessert tray. jj

Seriously, I don't know if your weight is healthy or not. I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV. I do know from my past though, that being underweight can be just bad as being overweight in many ways.

That is far from true. Although there are underweight issues they are nowhere near the volume of overweight issues and can be virtually eliminated with proper food intake - the poster is a volleyball player - so I doubt that she has that level of energy without taking care of her overall health as well.
