CIP reg would not require you to even obtain, let alone verify, the driver's license number or issuing authority of a person who applied online, if you are able to use 'nondoc' verification, i.e., obtaining name, phys. address, date of birth and TIN and verifying a sufficient number (whatever number your FI chooses using a risk-based approach) of those elements via a credit report or other service provided by your vendor. The FI's policy might require it, but if the FI is looking to expand its business into the online arena, it should be prepared to receive applications from everywhere and may want to revisit its policy about verifying the driver's license info on a person who is not appearing in person to apply. We will be going the same route as the credit card cos. - asking you to provide your ID number and state, but, we will neither attempt to obtain a photocopy of it nor attempt to verify it is correct. Why would anyone want to open an account with you instead of their local bank? Sure money launderers like a perceived lack of transparency, but for legit applications, maybe your bank has better rates, better products, better online offerings, better customer service?
