The New York Times web site has an analysis of the candidates' television advertising for this presidential election. Obama has outspent McCain by a large difference. (McCain $90 million vs. Obama $145 million.)

It's also interesting to see where the ads were shown. California and Texas have been almost ignored while the midwest, mid-atlantic, and Florida have been saturated. There are also some pockets that stick out: Denver, Las Vegas, Albequerque.

If I get the financing I may be coming to your state to do some campaigning. As it is I will be working here in texas for the next 17 days, unless I get sponsorship to go to a swing state

Obama bought his own satellite channel, COME ON! 24/7 of the same commercial over and over again.

I almost enjoy watching The Big O's commercials here... 1-2 minute spots detailing how he grew up, the values that his grandparents and his mother taught him, and him sgaring the direction and details of his plan... and no McCain slanders.

I cannot not say the same for McCain's ads here... nto a single Mccain ad here discusses his plans or directions... only why the other guy is worse than he is.

Perhaps that is why our state has a double digit lead for the Big O, when we normally spilt our vote 50/50 between the presidential candidates.

Just the opposite around here. Obama's ads are nothing but attacks on McCain, and completely negative at every turn.

Oh yeah, every commercial break. I couldn't believe it myself when I saw them. I have seen one Mccain ad but that was it. Obamas ad is one his economy ads and then he has his health care smear of Mccain as running too.

out of the frying pan...
Here in GA, too! We're under a nearly constant barrage of O ads, and most of them are the nasty attack variety. I honestly don't think I saw a single McCain ad all weekend....

Good thing Obama didn't stick with accepting the private funding of his campaign, eh?

I haven't seen or heard any ads for either one. But I also don't watch a lot of television.

I did read something recently that identified McCain as having a far more negative/slanderous ad campaign than Obama.

Hope he's better at keeping promises as President than as President-designate.

Yes, Obama spoke that lie during the debate when he said that McCain's ads have been 100% negative. It's amazing he had the chutzpah to so brazenly state something that's so easily disproven.

Where the heart is
Good lord these are political campaigns! Of COURSE each candidate is going to attack the other - that's a time honored tradition. Of COURSE each candidate is going to do what they feel will help them win. That's what political CAMPAIGNS are all about. This is nothing new and happens EVERY time we have a Presidential election.

Yet, just like every generations parents complain that "music these days is just awful", every four years we complain that the campaigns are so negative.

About that music comment, I got a real giggle on another message board where someone complained about today's rap and hip-hop and longed for days of "real" music like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, and Black Sabbath - (music that my grandfather said came straight from the devil.)

There are alternate suggestions to political campaigns such as the political process of the Lilliputians in Gulliver's Travels. MY favorite idea is to have the candidates participate in Team Jeopardy. "Alex, I'll take International Leaders for $100."

Quick hijack-I heard this morning that the song "Stairway to Heaven" by itself, has earned Led Zepplin $500+ million...

Speaking of music...I heard on the radio just recently that Bon Jovi and The Foo Fighters have joined the list of artists asking McCain to stop using their songs for his campaign.

Just about any channel I watch they are on. Almost everytime they channel goes to commercial, but I think we have some other seats up too around here so that may be why

So Cal
Fortunately I haven't had to see too many Obama ads. I haven't seen hardly any McCain ads either, but here in CA it would probably be a waste of money for McC. I have seen a lot of ads for the state propositions here though. There is an Obama channel on my satellite TV, but I have never really gotten into political fiction.

I will just be so glad when the election is over and I pray that the Republicans come out of the woodwork and into the polling booths to keep this country a capitalist democracy.
