Land of Steady Habits
Some two hours after the first license was issued in New Haven, the first "marriage" took place here today. For the life of me, I cannot understand how a man can "marry" another man or woman a woman. Males marry females and females marry males. This whole scenario played out due to judicial activism by the Connecticut Supreme Court.

The founding fathers of the Constitution State aka the Land of Steady Habits must be rolling over in their graves!!

Connecticut's anti-discrimination laws prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation. This wasn't made up out of whole cloth, it was an interpretation of existing law.

Because it goes to show how broad the scope of marriage goes for other issues.

Incorrect. Connecticut's Supreme Court decided that it wanted to redefine marriage. Any one person of legal age in Connecticut was already free to marry any one person of the opposite sex, also of legal age, subject to whatever restrictions might be appertunate to the granting of the license. Sexual orientation was not an issue. This freedom was, of course, in keeping with the basic understanding of what marriage is, as the people of Connecticut saw fit to define it. Now the Supreme Court of that state, by the narrowest of margins, has decided for them.

...I said it was! Just pointing out that while one state says you can't discriminate, another says you can, using the same-sex criteria.

No, they didn't just 'decide' to redefine marriage. There was an actual case, with plaintiffs and everything.

Bottom line: "We don't like the fact that marriage isn't defined to include same-sex couples. Deal with it."
