I absolutely love salty, crunchy snack foods. I'm trying to wean myself from the 2.2 lbs of goldfish that I currently scarf each week. so I can stay out of the Obese BMI category.

Anyone have any ideas on some substitute snack foods?

You could try dried seaweed... it's crunchy, definately salty, and you probably won't eat 2.2 lbs a week of it!

Popcorn If you do salt and no butter it's not as fat. Some pretzels also work, and you get your salt fix.

(But since I consider goldfish to be a dinner food I'm not sure you should ask me). They serve goldfish at the Petro club. Many times a glass of wine and some goldfish make my entire meal in the evening. In fact....what time is it? I may go over now LOL

Gold fish are baked not fried so there really isn't that much fat content. Salt does cause the retention of water though. You may consider getting away from all the salt and find salt substitutes.

How about Cheerios? They aren't salty, but they are crunchy. And probably a little bit better for you.

Let's see I have a Gold Fish hat, golf shirt, watch, golf balls, tees, golf towels, t-shirt and a "cooly" for my beer when in the golf cart or on the boat.

Give up Gold Fish, no way.

How's about pretzels? They have salt free, if you are trying to drop the salt, but they really don't have THAT much salt, and they are low fat.

Salt can raise your pressure or make you retain water, but I don't think it's the salt that makes you fat. It is the fat AND the amount of calories taken in.

Try pretzel rods, take small bites and savor them slowly. Those goldfish go down too quick!

And then dip them in Nutella. Voila, instant chocolate covered pretzel!

I love those salt and vinegar potato chips. Don't have them very often, just messes up your whole mouth for a few days.

Try Corn Nuts or the Japanese have dried and salted peas which are pretty good. Can't remember what they call them but you can get them in the specialty food section at a lot of grocery stores.

What's helped with my Cheetos munching is to buy the snack size bags and only bring one to work at a time. If I have a whole big bag squirrelled away in my office, I just keep crunching away. I tried buying a big bag and portioning it into baggies, but it just doesn't work the same way for me. There are snack size bags of Goldfish too.

I keep a large jar of Dry Roasted Peanuts in my office. This helps satisfy the munchies during the day. They are higher in protien than other snacks.

I also buy pork rinds to keep in the office. No carbs.

I also bring cheese to work.

That's what I have to do with Wheat Thins. An open box is an empty box.

Triscuts are my salt cure, just can't leave them alone. They are even better with cheese - any kind.

I started doing the "daily allotment portion" and it worked until about 6:35 a.m. on day one. Now I bring in 2 bags of raw vegies and can't eat the golfish till I've finished my vegies. On the bright side, I'm eating vegies . On the down side, I have all of my snacks eaten by 10 each day.

The new cheese-flavored triscuits are great! Now you don't have to mess with the cheese!

Haven't tried cheese flavored Triscuits yet (didn't even know they made them), but the new Chedder Ritz Crisps are yummy. Talk about an addiction... Oh, that's another thread.

If you have the patience and the privacy, sunflower seeds are the quinessential salty snack food. I love to eat 'em on long drives, until my lips shrivel inside from all the salt!

However, in the workplace, it may be a little more difficult. It is hard to suck, crack, and spit them in a professional manner. Ptooey!!

Work in a cube farm. Would it be wrong to spit them across the walls? That may be fun.
