I prefer the white lights, but I use the colored ones because those are the ones that my grandchildren prefer.

I like colored lights with brightly colored ornaments that don't match! Can't stand "designer" trees. We had one of those awful aluminum trees growing up with red and blue balls and one of those lights that sat next to the tree and turned 3 different colors. Colors were supposed to reflect off of the aluminum tree. HATED THAT TREE! But I understand they are making a comeback.

We usually use white lights outside and colored ones on the Christmas tree. However, this year I have some pretty lights that look like pointsettias for the tree and they are red!

Grandma O had one of those trees and I really wanted it when I moved out to AZ. Somehow it had become lost but I think Aunt Peggy threw it away because my grandma never lost things or threw things out.

I have the large mixed color lights on the house and I put white twinkle lights on the very inside of the tree and mix color on the outside branches. Gives it really nice depth.

We put up an aluminum Festivus pole as I find tinsel distracting.

We were at an auction recently and they had one of the aluminum trees, complete, in the box, with the original branch wrappers. No one wanted it, so we got it for free. It will be going up in my living room next weekend. We put a tree in our family room w/colored lights for the boys ornaments, and another in the living room w/white lights and gold ribbon for our ornaments. I pretty much have some sort of tree in every room of the house, and one on the front proch and this year we'll have one on our back patio. Yes - we like to decorate!

MB, what's a festivus pole?? It's made from aluminium. Very high strength-to-weight ratio.

from wiki wiki wikipedia (thanks, AG)
In the episode, though not in the original O'Keefe Family celebration, the tradition of Festivus begins with an aluminium pole. During Festivus, the Festivus Pole is displayed unadorned. The pole was chosen apparently in opposition to the commercialization of highly decorated Christmas trees, because it is "very low-maintenance", and also because the holiday's patron, Frank Costanza, finds tinsel "distracting". The basics of the Festivus pole are explained by Frank in two separate situations.
Cosmo Kramer: Is there a tree?
Frank Costanza: No, instead, there's a pole. It requires no decoration. I find tinsel distracting.
Frank Costanza: It's made from aluminium. Very high strength-to-weight ratio.
Mr. Kruger: I find your belief system fascinating.
When not being used, the Festivus Pole is stored in a crawlspace.

Can it also serve as a dance poll?

Festivus for the rest of us!!!
I don't do lights outside. I do like to go around an look at other people's lights. I really like finding the ones that aren't done very well or in poor taste and laugh. My favorite was the ones that ran from the front porch across the ground to a bush in the front yard and then were just kind of clumped in a couple of spots on the side of the bush. I envisioned some poor schmuck trying to watch a football game with a nagging wife reminding him he promised to string the lights outside that day. He thinks, "I'll show her some lights!" and grabs the string, plugs it in, runs to the bush in his skivvies and house shoes, tosses the lights on, some fall off and he picks those up and tosses them on simultaneously to turning to go back into the house.
Tasteless is putting blinking colored lights on all the objects (ALL, I said) in the nativity scene. Baby Jesus shouldn't blink red, blue, yellow and white.

Oh so MB's post was a joke. <<<<<<-------Aparently naive about the 'festivus pole' thing. Thanks for the lesson AG.

Multi-color lights rock! White lights seem a little too formal for me.
