I finally had an MRI on my neck, after 6 months of pain, to find out I have 2 bulging discs! Have any of my BOL friends encountered this? I have an appointment with a Neurologist in January. If you have had to deal with this - any advice on options? Thanks

Apache-
I had a severely herniated disc, but it was in the lowerback (L5,S1), not in the neck. I had a discectomy 1 1/2 years ago, and knock on wood, was very successful.

I would strongly suggest getting at least 2 opinions on what your options are. I got three-the second surgeon suggested a fusion vs. discectomy, to which the other 2 said was completely ridiculous for my situation.

I can appreciate what you are going through. Hang in there.

only if I want to....
Had the same scenerio as Sox and totally agree about 2nd opinions. Lost good bit of function in leg/foot. Had surgery almost 12 years ago and regained a good bit of function back although still have some nerve damage (no feeling) in several places in foot/leg. It was the best thing that ever happened to me!

Will be thinking about you and praying for you! Let us know how you are doing!!!

Thank you so much, I covet the prayers. I will go to Odessa to a neuro, then on to another one. May even get 3 opinions.
Blessings to all of you who have responded - makes me feel a lot better! smile

I had a ruptured/bulging disk in my neck a few years ago and had surgery to repair it. The surgery was a snap and I was immediately free of pain. Make sure you go to a top surgeon and you should be happy with the result.

I was off work and in a cervical collar for 6 weeks. The doctor said the recovery time ranged from 2 - 12 weeks, and 6 was the most common.

My husband recently had back surgery. We initially went to a doctor in Odessa and he didn't know his but from a hole in the ground. We ended up flying all the way to Los Angeles for surgery. Be very careful about the doctors around this area. I have heard some good things about doctors in Lubbock, but try to stay away from the Texas Back Institute. Good luck.

one more thing to help in between....ice ice ice...don't use heat! Heat just makes the issue worse! And don't use ice for a long period of time, like for about 15 minute intervals.

Hope you are better soon!

Thanks so much! I'm going to Dr. Kadir in January. My Doctor here told me that if he recomends surgery that she will send me to Dallas. Thank you very much for the advice. Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
