Way, way south.
I bought a new Sony dig cam a little while ago, and that thing turned out to be the biggest piece of carp made, and I haven't heard great things about Sony in some time.

I hear Vizio has some good products for the money, but I would do some research on Consumer Reports for the brand.

I have a 46" Sony LCD HDTV (1080p) and it's awesome! If you can you have to get 1080p HD, especially if you plan and doing Blueray and HD cable/satelitte. It makes a difference. Do LCD instead of plasma. Plasma TVs are subject to burn in (In video display, this is a term to describe what happens when an image has been displaying too long, resulting in a permanent image being "burned in" to the screen phosphor.)

Trees,

Are you going to hook up to an HD signal or use regular cable? Are you planning on going Blueray for DVDs?

I have a 50" Samsung LCD in the living room and a 52" RCA HDTV in the bedroom. Both have been very good.

If this is the case pony up the extra bones for an HD tv with 1080p.

Cool. In my experience the value brands can deliver a great picture in HD, but there's a big difference in the picture from a lesser signal. I would stick to a top brand like Sony (as you mentioned) or Samsung - so basically just look for the one with the biggest price tag laugh. IMO, once you see how DVDs look, you will find a way to get HD cable in the very near future. If this is the case, you could look at brands like Vizio, LG or Westinghouse to save some money and still get a great picture (in HD).

Since you plan on Blueray, definitely go with 1080p. Otherwise, since cable channels still only broadcast at 720p, you could save a little here also.

Something to consider regarding the size of the tv is how far away you will be viewing it - with a regular cable signal on a large tv the picture quality will lessen as you get closer to it.
