Would someone be nice enough to share their policy on what to do if a customer is opening account and their social security number comes up showing the number has been inactivated due to report of death. There are different ideas on how we should handle this situation. I appreciate any help I can get.

1) Verify the number with the customer (potential customer) to ensure it was properly documented by obtaining copy of SSA card or ID document showing number if possible. Also verify customer's full name (including any possible name changes due to marriage/divorce).
2) If no error was made in recording the number, decline relationship. Maintain copies of all documents gathered in the new account/CIP process.
3) Refer to BSA Office for further investigation.
4) Will likely complete SAR for ID theft.
