Just sayin' what I remember being called. And besides, I like to think I don't fall in with the "gimmegimmegimme" kids. Let's hear it for my brothers.. both "solid" Gen X'ers.. one lives in my folks' basement, the other will soon be living in my folks' basement with his wife in tow.

I'm Gen Y - 30ish - but I must have an old soul...many of my friends in college kept asking me why I was working (food service - I have no finger prints left) because I could work when I had graduated.
I told them I've had a job since I was 14 and couldn't imagine not working. Quite a few had never had a job.
I did leave the "city" 8 years ago and took a paycut to be close to home. But loyalty is built in. I cannot understand job-jumpers. We're the same age (exactly, if I recall correctly) and I've always been told I'm Gen X. I'm not sure whether to take that as an insult or not, but I suppose it's better than "Y".

That is true, there are lots of people out there who think they get out of college and have companies fighting for them with job offers. Wake up folks!
It's great that they have their degree, but they need some job experience and some real life experience do a company any good. Kind of like POTUS?

...At a time when the nation is struggling with one of the worst economic downturns since the Great Depression, Gen Yers like Rhein are facing a rude, job-hunting awakening. They often have to stand in line behind their more senior counterparts as any companies lucky enough to be hiring take their choice of more seasoned job applicants. Now, wait a minute... Rhein Ron guaranteed me she was going to be in the top tax bracket immediately upon graduation. What's this about more-seasoned applicants???

My b/d is in '76. My wife is a few years younger. Anytime we diagree about something, I attribute it to "generation gap" - one of those buttons I just love to push...

From answers.com
Generation X: The generation following the post–World War II baby boom, especially people born in the United States and Canada from the early 1960s to the late 1970s.
Generation Y: The generation following Generation X, especially people born in the United States and Canada from the early 1980s to the late 1990s.
Generation Z: Generation Z is the generation of people living in Western or First World cultures that follows Generation Y. According to Phil Ruthven of IBISWorld, who provides market research analysis, Generation Z,(typically the offspring of Generation X) are currently in grade school or younger. While Generation Z, or as Strauss and Howe defined them the New Silent Generation, has yet to be defined however the generation begins sometime after 2000.

I had a very funny (to me)conversation with my older son (31) who told me he had to go to a lecture for his job on how to work with Gen Y employees. He rattled on about how difficult one of his office mates is and how he totally fit what they were talking about. The traits they were discussing, he realized, where the same traits that irratate him about his younger brother (25). He was telling me how he had to work for everything he has and Gen Y just expects it to be handed to them. They have no work ethic blah blah blah. It was so funny because that is exactly what the baby boomers complained about Gen X, and what the silent generation complained about the baby boomers!

So much for outcome based education, being told you are great and swell, and never being told no... Such a bizarre spin to put on this news story. It's just my opinion, but I don't think JJ's interpretation jibes with the actual events.

As much as this article did amuse me, I have to admit that my brother and his wife (both 26) defy the definition, mostly.
My SIL is an EMT, my brother a firefighter and first responder... they have a two year old with one on the way, and have a home with a 15 year mortgage.
Still act a little immature at times, but overall, pretty good productive kids.
