I know I will miss the comedy of John Ritter who died yesterday and the music of Johnny Cash who died this morning. Both were American icons.

I was totally shocked to hear of them this morning. Although everyone knew that Johnny Cash had been ill, no one had any idea about John Ritter.

Did John Ritter's father not also die as a relatively young man from a heart related cause? Perhaps it is a genetic flaw?

I wasn't really surprised by Johnny Cash dying - I figured it was only a matter of time, with June Carter dying earlier this year and his bout of pneumonia and everything. Very very sad, he was a legend.

But John Ritter really surprised me. (And himself, too, probably.) Just sad.

Name your favorite Johnny Cash song and John Ritter show.....

Mine would be "Folsom Prison" and that one Ritter did with Markie Post - "Hearts Afire", I think?

I liked John Ritter in the movie "Slingblade", but when i think of him, it always comes back to ...

Come and knock on our door.
We’ve been waiting for you.
Where the kisses are hers and hers and his,
Three's company too.

Come and dance on our floor.
Take a step that is new.
We’ve a lovable space that needs your face,
Three’s company too.

You’ll see that life is a frolic and laughter is calling for you.
Down at our rendezvous, three is company, too.

I am partial to "Let the Circle Be Unbroken, although I also like "Ring of Fire," because June wrote that song for him.

I liked Hearts Afire too - Markie Post and Billy Bob Thornton made it one of the better comedies I have seen.

I don't have a Johnny Cash song, but I did like John Ritter as Clifford the Big Red Dog!

I was sad to hear about both.

Yesterday was also John Ritter's daughter's birthday. She turned 5. How sad for the family.

I have been watching his new show (I have a teenage daughter) and found it very funny and mostly true to life.

Ring of Fire.

I have a photograph of my mom with Tex Ritter. She went to an outdoor concert, and he was gracious enough to pose for a pic. (Well, the fact that Mom was young and gorgeous probably helped a little!)

My son, who turned 22 yesterday, was an avid, avid fan of Johnny Cash. I called him at 6:00 a.m. this morning to tell him the sad news.

His recent song "Hurt" which had been recently nominated for something like 6 MTV awards (and won for best cinematography) is an amazing song and if you haven't seen the video of it, you really should. It is so moving and is now a tribute to a great singer.

But, he is now reunited with his wife June, and others who passed before him.

How about Boy Named Sue!! I saw him in person in Calif and Las Vegas and he was definitely a performer who captured his audience. Will definitely be missed.

Never cared much for country music so Johnny Cash wasn't one of my favorites, but he did have a story to tell.

But I don't know what I will do on Tuesday nights without "8 Simple Rules for Dating my Teen-age Daughter". We have a 15 year old and her Daddy has posted the 8 Rules that came out when the show started on the refrigerator door!

Not a country music fan, but will definitely miss the "Eight Simple Rules . . ." on Tuesday evenings. Our 14 year old daughter and her big brother were glued to the TV when that show was on. Her Dad has his own set of rules he is setting up for when guys come knocking on our door . . .

I've seen Johnny live too - at the Mall one year during A Capital Fourth. And I wouldn't say he's so much as country singer as a Classic American singer! The man is a legend.

He sings with Roseanne (his daughter) on her newest album; the first time I heard it I got goose bumps and cried (of course I was 7 months pg at the time too, so my hormones were a little over the top.)

TVLand and Nick at Nite did tributes to John Ritter yesterday. They showed episodes of many shows on which John was a guest star, in addition to Three's Company. It was great. I'd forgotten about his turn with Amy Yasbeck on Cosby, and the episode of Wings where he played (again) Amy Yasbeck's deadbeat husband. Classic physical comedy!

Home of the 8 time NCAA Champ ...
I saw Johnny Cash at a concert in 1986. More specifically, I saw him at an Ozzy Osbourne/Metallica concert when he sat 5 rows behind us. He had a young guy around my age with him (I assumed it was his son, I had seen Roseanne Cash on Letterman and she mentioned that her younger brother liked heavy metal). It was quite a sight to see metal fans (dressed like only metal fans in 1986 dressed) going up to Johnny Cash and asking for autographs on their ticket stubs. I was disappointed that he never went on stage to sing with Ozzy though...

OK...can't figure it out, so here are the "8 Simple Rules"

1. Use your hands on my daughter and you'll lose them later.
2. You make her cry, I make you cry.
3. Safe sex is a myth. Anything you try will be hazardous to your health.
4. Bring her home late, there's no next date.
5. Only delivery men honk. Dates ring the doorbell. Once.
6. No complaining while waiting for her. If you're bored, change my oil.
7. If your pants hang off your hips, I'll gladly secure them with my staple gun.
8. Dates must be in crowded public places. You want romance? Read a book.

Those are funny! Of course I have the young man at home that will be dating someone's daughter at some point in time. Kids these days don't seem to be (at least in my neck of the woods) as interested in dating as they did when I was young.
