That is true only if the two players (sorry, if the dvd and the player) are of the same format. An NTSC DVD coded for Region 1, if played in an NTSC DVD player configured for Region 2 will display "Wrong Region".
However, format trumps region. The UK is on the PAL standard. The US is on NTSC.

Yea, I guess it just not possible that PM Brown has one of those New Fangled DVD players that can play NTSC and PAL video formats! smirk

Sigh...
He might own a multi-format player. Many people in UK do. I've owned 4 such players (still have 2 of them) from 3 different manufacturers. They all defaulted to 'Region 0', which will play any region coding.

I'm a little puzzled by this underlying explanation. if the format is incompatible, it will never load. yet, you say it usually won't load.

Different machines handle the incompatibility in different ways.

is this an admission that you may have been *gasp* wrong on your initial answer?

No, it means you understood neither the initial answer, nor the clarification I supplied. And, typically, you lack whatever anatomical component is required to take responsibility for your own lack of understanding.

Hork! You guys are so funny, discussing DVD player formatting.

I wonder if Teaching Mrs. Tingle made the gift list?

no Barbie - I understood it perfectly. First, you said it was not possible. Then, you said it could be possible depending on the unit (and we all know you have much experience with different units, being as you own 4). Finally, you fail to admit that you could have been wrong or at least neglected to provide full disclosure in your initial answer. but that's okay, we still love you anyway...your entertainment value is still high! wink

The Obama admin would do well to remember what doesn't go around (in a DVD player) comes around!

We will be at the G-20 summit in a few weeks. Someone better check the teleprompters before the President gets up to speak.

We need Happy to start a poll of some sort where we guess what appropriate DVDs were given as gifts. And that seems like a really impersonal gift (even though I like getting DVDs).

Dumb and Dumber

Of course, that just might be how the Obama/Biden Administration is known in the future.
