I live about an hour away from where all of the earthquakes have been happening and we've been rocking and rolling quite a bit the last few days. I agree that small earthquakes are good because it "lets off steam" but it can be a bit scary, especially when they keep talking about that area being the tip of the San Andreas fault and how long it has been since a really big earthquake occurred. The good thing about earthquakes happening here is that we don't have very tall buildings and so when a tremor comes the property damage is minimal but no matter what, earthquakes are still scary as all get out!

I can only imagine, at least when we're going to have a hurricane we know it's coming and can take the appropriate precautions.

You feel the earth start to move, you have to decide in a split second if it is strong enough to warrant taking cover or if you can just ride it out where you are. We have a lamp hanging over our kitchen table and we watch that lamp to see how hard it is swinging. If it starts swinging too much we take cover. We have earthquakes pretty much every day but these over the last few days have been much more noticeable.

According to the USGS website there have been 17 quakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater and 898 total in the last week in CA and NV. That is a heck of a lot of rockin' and rollin'. Wasn't that relatively large quake last July in that same area of the desert as these current ones? You're right Ledeana, there's always that thought as soon as a quake starts "Is this the big one?"

Being from the midwest i can't imagine what it would be like to have the earth moving under your feet. I will take out tornado over earthquakes any day. Heck, we tornado sirons go off, I run out to try and see it.

The earthquake over the summer was in this same region but a different area. That earthquake was in Mexico and the earthquakes that have been happening the last few days have been up north in the Salton Sea area. I believe the earthquake in Mexico was on a different fault. Everyone is nervous about these recent quakes because they involve the San Andreas Fault. It's nerve wracking when it happens but not much you can do except have emergency supplies on hand in case a big quake hits.

The ONLY time I have ever ducked and covered was during the quake last year because it felt big in the office building. Living in San Diego where we've enver had earthquake damage, I've always found them to be a fun little ride.
