Is there a federal regulation that mandates how long you should retain employee emails?

I don't believe there is a federal regulation, with the potential exception of notification requirements for adverse action (if it is even allowed). States are usually the entities that have retention requirements.

No. SEC and SOX rules aside, if it was on paper, how long would you keep it, if at all?
