From an audit perspective, what controls needed to be in place regarding bank employees acting as a notary public?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

A notary is normally an officer of the State and the bank should have little control over their notary activities. In some States (not sure about Wis.) the bank would not even be allowed to keep any notary fee that is charged, as it must go to the notary and cannot be assigned to an employer.

Same in PA. Our notaries only do in-house notary work and all fees go directly to them not to the bank.
