Pulling people out of the ditc...
...the 5th largest manufacturer of ammunition in the US, buys much of its supplies from the Department of Defense by way of used brass casings. They have recently been notified by the DoD that they will no longer sell the casings to GA, but will instead shred the brass and sell it in bulk to...China...at a fee that is significantly less than GA is paying for the cartridges today. GA is likely going to lay of 40-50% of its workforce in the next 3 months as a result of this decision.

I sure Hope this decision is Changed...

Of course, the proposed tax on ammunition that is meeting much resistance surely couldn't have any bearing on this...

out of the frying pan...
Dang! Guess we need to lay in a larger supply before this gets any uglier. We've been picking up a box or two per gun every time we're somewhere it's sold, but its already getting harder to find .40s for my husband and .38 Specials for me. The .9s still seem to be in decent supply.

I found it. Looks like they changed their minds.

Fired brass shell casings

Responding to two Democratic senators representing outraged private gun owners, the Department of Defense announced last night it has scrapped a new policy that would deplete the supply of ammunition by requiring destruction of fired military cartridge brass.

My FIL just does his own reloads...sure they're not as accurate, but not bad for a day at the range.

Somewhere in the middle
Have not confirmed this, but the comments on this site say the order was reversed. Other words, it was shot down.
