An Ode to my Last Day of Training on the Patriot Act!

It began with the waiting
For Regs to come out.
We commented, lamented
What’s this all about?

We wondered and worried;
Asked “where can I find…?”
We posted our questions
On Bankersonline.

Then Treasury released them,
So we all got busy
Writing Polices, Manuals
Until we were dizzy!

David wrote questions,
With answers a-plenty.
Ken and Andy solved problems,
We lost count of how many!

We wrote and we trained
While the vendors attacked
“My program’s fantastic!”
Mine’s ABA backed!”

“Use mine! It’s the best one!”
“No mine- now it’s better!”
“Mine will find terrorists
And send them a letter!”

So we worked and we asked
As our managers hovered;
Trusts are an issue!
Are affiliates covered?

Does OFAC belong here?
Are Matricula’s legal?
Can I accept an ID
With an American Eagle?

Can I open this account?
If I do, can I close it?
I’d ask you this question
If I knew how to pose it!

What is “high risk”?
Are ITINs required?
Can the Amish be exempted,
Or will that get me fired?

Must the Board approve this?
Will this Notice pass?
This whole regulation
Is a pain in my A--!

Well, now it’s before us
Ready or not
The first of October
Will arrive on the dot.

We’ve fought the “good fight”
But no, we’re not through…
Next year we’ll be preparing
For Patriot II!

Wow! You must have had one rotten career couselor in high school to be doing compliance when you've got this kind of creative talent.

No insult intended to us in compliance - but let's face it, it doesn't really nurture our creative bents, does it? (Or maybe it does )

I love it. I will take it to our committee meeting today. Can you believe we are still meeting about all this? We have our progam written (still changing every day), have done training, will take to the board Monday at high noon. So why are we all still so confused??????

Aw shucks, ya'll - you're gonna give a girl a swelled head!!
Actually, I love compliance and I do a lot of compliance training. I find that a little creativity helps when making compliance training "fun" for the rest of the Bank. Im just lucky that I get to use both sides of my brain!

Thank you I have forwarded this to many people throughout my corporation to show them I am not the only one struggling with this. You did a great job of putting into words everyones frustrations.

Fantastic! That was very well said! I am going to send this one around to those that helped get our program to completion, they will get a kick out of it.

You actually put a smile on my face regarding CIP. I was singing the CIP blues there for a while. Many thanks for your Ode to CIP. I can't wait to share this with my BSA Committee...

Bear Collector,
Until now, I did not think there was any aspect of CIP that could make me smile. You're good...

BOL Challenge - Who can put this to music so we can have an audio clip for the Bankers Tools?

Bear Collector - thanks for putting me in a more proper frame of mind for a Friday afternoon!

That was absolutely awesome. I don't think any of us could have put it any better. I agree that the marketing department will be coming to hunt you down. I have deposit compliance and marketing/advertising. I wish that I could have both brains working like you do. Thanks a bunch, that made my day with October 1st coming.

Great job!

If someone can suggest a public domain tune that matches this ode's structure, I'll play it and Sam Ott (who has a wonderful voice) can sing it and we can post it.

What type of music do you hear in your head with this?

Do a Google search on "public domain music" or "Public domain songs" to get some ideas what we could record without violating copyright.
