Can we stop letting a customer use their debit card without giving them written notice. We want to stop the use because he is an overdrawn status.

How come the card still works? It should automatically state NSF and reject unless he has an overdraft facility.

Jane, not necessarily - if her bank allows customers an overdraft limit then the card will work until they have surpassed that limit.

all123, I would try contacting your customer first. Perhaps they don't know they are currently overdrawn - call and ask them to make a deposit. If they refuse or simply can't, tell them that you will need to deactivate their card until the account is brought positive. A debit card is a privilage, not a requirement.

You should look at your written agreement and the back of the card. I am betting it says something to the affect that the card belongs to the bank and the bank may recall it without notice.
