The best steak I have ever eaten was at a little general store near Westcliffe Colorado. The guy had a back room in the store that he opened up on Saturday night for steak dinners. Steak, baked potato, and corn were the only thing on the menu. He cooked them up on a charcoal grill out back of the store with a special blend of seasoning. You could buy the seasoning from him - it came in an plain plastic sandwich bag. If I hadn't been afraid we would get pulled over on the trip home and have to explain what was in the bag, I would have bought some. Seriously, I have been out West a couple of times and the beef out there is on another level compared to what we get here in the east. http://www.omahasteaks.com/servlet/OnlineShopping?Dsp=1

Omaha Steaks are good but not the best imo. They are good and you can get whatever you want to get from them. There are plenty of butcher shops around here that I would say are a bit better, but on a scale of one to ten I would say Omaha Steaks are an 8. I would put most of our local grocery stores as a 3 or 4. Its just a different quality of meat. When I get a good steak like an Omaha Steak I don't even really want them to cook it. I should not get sick from steak as there is not the same bacteria content as ground beef. Just heat it up and let me at it. But oddly, as much as I have been posting about this, I hardly even eat red meat (like Thomas J). I usually eat fish or chicken. But sometimes I just crave a filet mignon.

#poststhatsounddirtybutarent You apparently missed the part of my post that said "After 20 years of marriage..." That virtually eliminates all possibilities of my post being dirty.

One of the best steaks I've ever had was in Fort Worth, TX. They take their steak seriously in Texas!

GD, you don't have to go that far for a good steak! Just up the 101, exit Nipomo, turn right and go to Jocko's. It's an old-timey Western saloon type place - it's been there for a long time. They cook the steaks on an outdoor grill over oak. One of the best steaks I have ever had - and it was well done, and not dry, just the way I like it. Complete dinner, including dessert, for $25 or less, depending on which steak you order.

best steak I ever ate was cooked well done in my backyard...no restaurant can touch it (queue "Can't touch this" in background)
Have tried the Omaha steaks, and they are pretty tasty, but our local "Fresh Market" has an awesome selection of meat, and will cut to order.

I like some of our local Meat producers a bit better. That said the nice thing about Omaha Steaks is you can get exactly what you want and you get a consistent product.

I had to give up on my favorite(prime rib) as up north the restaurants forgot how to properly cook it. I like it anywhere from over blue to just before burnt and cant find it in NY for under $60. and even at that price it is hit and miss.

Really? Try going to the big city! Keen's Steakhouse and the Knickerbocker Bar & Grill are great.

I buy my steaks in "bulk" - I get a 1/4 to a 1/2 of a cow every year. We take it to the butcher and I can have my steaks cut to order too But the BEST steak that I EVER had was Harry Caray's Tallgrass Beef - from the menu -> "The healthiest, best tasting brand of grass-fed/grass-finished beef. It comes from a rare genetic stock and is high in Omega-3s and CLAs and low in saturated fat and cholesterol." Bill Kurtis, Legendary Newsman and Owner of Tallgrass Beef Holy Cow! It was awesome http://www.northshoremag.com/cgi-bin/ns-article?article=/healthfam/06-09-cowboy.html

I had a great steak at Joe's Crab Shack (I think that is what it was called) in Chi-town, too.

Ed, I take it your a mountain biker.
QCL, Bill Kurtis is just a cool guy. His new commercials for cable internet are actually pretty funny, esp. the boxing one with Floyd Maywether(?) I think his name is.
