I'm surprised that they are putting the show on hold. I would think that more people would tune in just to see if there are any blow ups during the transition.

I think they should have four more kids as soon as possible

I'm not. I think there is definitely some backlash against TLC for continuing to promote this show.

Seriously, her hair is horrible. I used to like it way back when, but now the back is super short and the front is really long...flock of seagulls revisited!

It seemed to me that Kate has been humbled (perhaps self-enlightened too) by the events of the last months. Jon seems like he is going through his "crisis of identity". He clearly said, he took a passive role in the marriage and let her get away with treating him poorly. Let's not forget folks they are really young, both in age and in their marital experience. Instead of dealing with adjusting to marriage in the early years of their life together, they had to deal with two sets of multiples, no time to adjust. Now that all the kids are at an age of some independence, all the "problems" between them can now get some attention. Except that they are both so entrenched in how they have been living, it is difficult to get a new perspective.

During the show they were talking about separation and I thought that was a good idea, give them time and space. Then the announcement appeared that they had filed for divorce yesterday. Maybe that is what they need to do. For as civil as they appeared last night, I don't think it will remain so. Jon is very passive-aggressive and Kate is not warm and fuzzy.

Expect to see more acting out from the kids as this season progresses. The twins will have drama. Parents will overcompensate. All the customary things that happen in modern divorces.

I do agree with the statement that this likely would have happened whether they were on TV or not. TV just made it happen quickly.

Is anyone else surprised that they aren't making some sort of effort to work things out (counseling, etc.)?

Of course I have to say that if my husband was unfaithful that would be a deal breaker for me, so maybe they both feel that way with all the rumors going around and just decided to end it.

I was channel surfing earlier and one of the networks (HLN) said that they have been "living apart" for 2 years. If this is true then it seems like the counseling ship has long sailed.

These two are irresponsible for putting their family on TV like this. They are irresponsible for letting their marital problems play out on national TV. I hope they have a trust fund for the therapy these poor, innocent children are going to need. What does it say about us that we'd watch it?

Picture yourself in their shoes when offered the tv job. Neither parent working. Eight kids to support. "Let us watch the kids grow and we'll pay you."

Once they got on the ride, they probably couldn't get off. Not to mention the kids got accustomed to doing things and having stuff. It's unfortuante that it didn't work out for them. But they're only human.

Now I'll just go say a prayer that God helps them work this out as best as HE can.

I'm not surprised Sing that they didn't try and work things out. They both don't want it to work for whatever reasons they both have.
The kids will survive.
Get them off TV and let them raise their kids.

I agree with Z on this. They allowed their life to be unfolded on TV, and it is a shame. And as Z points out, we eat this stuff up. I read a quote from Jon and I paraphrase- men and women are dying in Iraq and all people want to know is what I had for lunch. Sad, but true.

and yet he's had the power all along to stop it by no longer being on the show. He can grandstand all he wants, but he surely must love the limelight and the free ride it's given his family. Now it is time to pay the piper, cause there's no such thing as a free lunch (I think I got at least 3 silly saying in there!)

Agreed Happy. I wasn't trying to take one side or the other, just wanted to point out the sad state of our country. They both need to deal with the repercussions of their decisions.
