We have an ongoing dispute about proper work clothes! Last year we "finally" got rid of uniforms (blazers/skirts/ties for the men-all of us dressed alike every day.) Now we wear (all alike) logo polo shirts and slacks of our choice. However, the CEO doesn't like that either. My question - what do you wear?

Curled up by the fire...
Monday through Thursday, men wear dress slacks, dress shirts and ties. Women wear dresses, suits, shirts/skirts, dress slacks/dress shirts.
Fridays are casual and that's no jeans but other casual/khaki pants with a bank shirt of your choice.
Summers are generally business casual for all employees...no ties, sandals, etc.

Pulling people out of the ditc...
normal months, men are required to wear a collared shirt with a tie (most opt for suits and hang the jacket), and casual day men wear dockers with collared shirts (polo, etc). On last friday of month men can wear jeans.

women...most dress like hookers, and dress code is not enforced on them. oh, we have one, just not enforced. But let a man come in without a tie on and they are sent home to get one...

but officially women should wear pants that go at least 2/3 of leg past knees, shoes must have a back (i.e., no flip flops), blouses must have 2 inches of material at the top (no spaghetti straps), no exposed skin between blouse and skirt/pants...

It's like slacks and a nice shirt. Like today i got away with jeans because of jury duty, we can wear capris (but the women have to have clean toes and shaved legs, we can wear sleeveless shirts in summer (no hairy arm pits), panty hose isn't required.

No shorts what so ever, its mainly just a use your judgement type thing. Oh no excessive cleavage, no lows pants (meaning no plumbers view), two ear piercings for women none for men. Tattoos have to be covered and no facial piercings for anyone, which is a duh.

Same as Corky.
But that's OK.
I was once told - wait I read it in a Dilbert book: You don't get promoted. Your clothes do. Dress like the position you want to be in.

I am the rebel here - I wear pants. And when someone complained, I told him that he should try audit the vault in a skirt and heels.

Our policy:
Appearance should be businesslike...male employees should wear suits or conservative sport coats, shirt with tie and slacks. (Male tellers are exempt from the suit and/or sport coat.) Female employees are encouraged to wear dresses, suits or a skirt and tasteful blouse or sweater; hose should also be worn.
The following list is NOT considered acceptable by the Bank:

- tank tops, sleeveless tops, t-shirts and sweatshirts
- turtlenecks without a sweater, blazer, cardigan or vest
- crew neck sweaters without a blouse or turtleneck
- transparent clothing
- torn or frayed clothing (e.g., cut-offs) and/or soiled clothing
-any "pants" considered inappropriate for business wear (e.g., jeans including corduroy and designer; casual pants e.g., Dockers etc.; stirrup pants; tights or spandex; sweatpants or leggings; etc.)
-dresses, skirts and split skirts considered inappropriate for business wear (e.g., hemlines more than two inches above the knee, low necklines, bare midriffs, backless tops, any suede/leather clothing, tie-dyed clothing, and sequin clothing)
-barefoot sandals, flip-flops, tennis shoes or similar types of casual shoes
-inappropriate hosiery (e.g., anklets, sweat socks, fish net nylons, etc.)
-jewelry which is not conservative and professional (e.g., ankle bracelets, large earrings within reason)
-excessive ear or prominent body ornaments, including all facial piercings;
-visible tattoos;
-extreme hair styles and hair colors;
-hair, mustaches, beards and sideburns unkempt or not neatly trimmed
-makeup not applied in a conservative manner, perfume/cologne not applied in a conservative manner

And like Happy, the rules don't apply to all. Of those that don't it's women that have been here for ages and the men are scared to tell them anything smile which makes me smile a little.

If an item is listed, it's because someone was dumb enough to wear it. I.e. - 'backless tops'

Somewhere in the middle
Depends on where you are:

I am in a non-customer contact area, so it is no ties required area. Therefore, I were dockers and a polo type shirt most the time. (although, today I wore a tie, old habits are hard to break)

If I am going to be in a meeting with upper management, I dress the part, Suite, Tie.

I will dig around and see if I can find the official dress code.

The XXX Bank portrays a very conservative business image which is reflected in our facilities and in the way we conduct business. We expect our employees to dress in a fashion that will adequately reflect that same conservative image.

All employees are expected to wear clothing, which will enable them to present themselves to a customer, at any given moment, in a professional manner. All employees are expected to be neat and clean and to be concerned with good personal hygiene.

For All Employees:
1. Proper business attire must be worn during business hours. Snug, suggestive, tight fitting, see-through, low cut attire is not permitted. Blue jean attire (denim), of any kind is not permitted.
2. Shoes such as tennis shoes, beach-style sandals and thongs are not considered proper business attire and are not to be worn.
3. All employees must wear nylons or socks at all times.
4. Tops must not be so short as to show bare skin.
5. Sleeveless shirts are permitted if accompanied by a jacket or sweater that must be worn when having direct customer contact.
6. Slacks must be good dress pants. No knit, leggings or stirrup pants. Dockers, corduroys or chino style pants are permitted.
7. Hair must be neat and clean and must not interfere with conducting business.
8. Male staff are required to wear ties.
9. No facial piercings are permitted.
10. Tattoos must be covered. No facial tattoos are permitted.
11. This is not an inclusive list. As fashion trends change or as other clothing issues present themselves, Management has the discretion to make decisions on what is or is not considered proper business attire.

For Employees Wearing Career Apparel:
1. Career Apparel must be worn during business hours except on dress up days or specifically designated casual days.
2. Career Apparel must be kept neat, clean, pressed and in good repair all times.
3. Employees are expected to adhere to the guidelines outlined in the Career Apparel Policy.

Dress Up Days:
Dress Up Days are paydays, Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. On those days, employees who normally wear career apparel have the option of wearing career apparel or their own personal business attire per the dress code guidelines mentioned above.

Of course half of the women in the office seem to be exempt fromt he policy here as well... trollops...

We never ever have to wear pantyhose!! It's why I stay here....pantyhose is the arch enemy of women everywhere.

No jeans except for on rodeo week.

Other than that business casual, which is really open to interpretation it seems.

I work back-office, and today I'm wearing slacks, lacy t-shirt, and sneakers.

We are allowed to wear jeans on Fridays.

I'm in a big office building (24 floors), no customer contact, and I'm not even on a "bank" floor anymore. Today I wore a suit with capri cottoms and tailored jacket and sleeveless collared top. Tomorrow, probably jeans and my Chuck Taylors. No rhyme or reason to it--just depends on my mood.

However, if I knwo I am having an in-person meeting or training, I dress professionally.

Our men - dress slacks, collared shirt and tie. Most of the men wear a suit and hang the jacket. We have only a very few lower level men.

Casual Fridays and Saturdays where you can wear a bank logo'd shirt, and more casual slacks. Jeans are a no-no, same as capri's.

We finally started no stockings in the summer, and we can wear thonged sandles, but no flip flops.

Mostly like Corky here. BUT and that's a hugh BUT - some people get away with anything.
We don't have a human resource dept here- we should- but we do not - as of yet- (I would love to be the head of that!) anyhow the chief at our bank despises jeans for work so even if we had a casual day - there would be no jeans. Hose all the time here too.
