Looks like I'm with good company in the non-officer and/or no title.

Job titles are like Dewey Decimal System, difficult to remember and over all useless.

Well to some it means nothing and if you get right down to it it probably doesn't. I worked long hours and a lot of hard work so I'm very very thankful of mine. That's just my O tho.

A lot depends on the bank. Some banks hand out titles like they were penny candy, others, wouldn't give you a title no matter what.

We used to be very limited with those titles, then we went through a spell where every time you sneezed, someone got a title for saying God bless you. As a result, 90% of our staff works directly for a VP.

It may look good if you're interviewing, but here, in-house, most of them mean butkus.

Most times titles = nothing. Mere window dressing. Even though they make people feel good.

I'm a VP, but it's meaningless at my institution. I have two VPs reporting to me, and I report to a VP...Crazy structure. I just use "attorney," since only about a dozen people in the company can claim that title...

Officer titles generally mean nothing to the person who has it, but everything for those who want it. Once you get it, the one you have is worthless and you want the next rung up...while I have a high title and a "C designation" with it, it really boils down more to compensation than the title...

I agree with that. I was a "Chief" at my last company (a regional bank that I really miss - I don't think I'll ever move for just money again! I've learned my lesson!), and the title wasn't a big deal, but it sounded nice. Now I work for an international bank that's 10 times the size of my former. I do essentially the same work, but have a lower "title."

PB makes a good point... in my shop, they do not hand titles out... I am the second one in my 6 years of being here to get it... only one other has been promoted to VP during that time as well... a boatload of managers, but very few title above that.

thankfully, with title comes nice compensation boosts as well, as well as the unspoken 'extras' cool

"O officer" probably means "other", such as banking officer, cashier, compliance officer, etc...

pjs, they are talking about in Dip's selections for the poll. . .she lists "O Officer" and they are speculating about what she meant by that title.

Looking at the poll, I find the last selection faulty. Doesn't everyone have a title of some sort?
