Are any banks closed for the holiday? In the midwest most banks are open today. The bank I work at still closes Veteran's Day and President's Day but remains open on Columbus Day and Martin Luther King Day? Where are other banks located and what days are they closed? Thanks.

We are closed for the six holidays Dan mentioned. After all, we have to keep up with our competitors.

We get 2 floaters, though, not the four that Dave gets.

Between the lines
We have 7 and 1 floater--
New Years Day
MLK Day
Memorial Day
July 4th
Labor Day
Thanksgiving
Christmas
We have one city branch that gets President's but no floater. (They also try to squeeze in Columbus and Veterans, like they did today. Grrrrr)

How do other bank's handle it when certain branches sneak in an extra day??

We also have branches that close during their local holiday celebrations. (It's hard to stay open with the parade in your front yard). Unfortunately they never parade past my office

We are open today. Makes no sense since we are in COLUMBUS, OHIO.

What is this world coming to? Next thing you know someone will discover it is flat!

Oh I can verify that. It ends just beyond my condo site.

Either that or the construction crew has really outdone themselves! (I can't wait for construction season to end!)

We are open! I thought it funny this morning when we tried to contact our form's vendor and they were closed for the holiday.

We get these and either 2 or 3 floaters (can't remember which, it just changed when they stopped giving us the day after Thanksgiving off. And since I had much of the summer off on maternity leave, I have no idea how many vacation or floater days I have left anyways. Not nearly enough, some weeks.)

FINALLY ABOVE the gnat line
New Year's
MLK day
Memorial Day
July 4th
Labor Day
Veteran's day
Thanksgiving
Christmas

I'm looking forward to Veteran's Day. The schools aren't closed so I will have the day to myself to do whatever my heart desires - possibly watch BOTH "The Fellowship of the Ring" AND "The Two Towers" in anticipation of the December release of "The Return of the King". Or I could just go Christmas Shopping. Could be good either way.

I love COmmunity banks -

New Years
Martin Luther King Day
Presidents Day
Memorial Day
July 4
Labor Day
COmlumbus Day
Veterans Day
Thanksgiving
Christmas

I used to work at a bank that gave us a half day to go vote and a half day to go to the State Fair - then I worked for a 'mega'bank' that wouldn't close for Veterans Day - they sure run the gamut, don't they?

Then I ask, if we're closed - why am I here?????

we're open...
we get 7 and no floaters... we're in a medium size market and are a local bank, so our rule of thumb is if the national banks are open so are we...
BUT most of our customers think we're closed so it's great... phone doesn't ring very much...

Bob - I think the entire State climbs Mt. Marathon on Seward Day (March 31), and I will assume that on Alaska day, they all collapse.

And we can all feel free to send Dawnie a card for the holidays, Alaska Day but for those who really want to know,

Seward's Day March 31 Seward's Day commemorates the signing of the treaty by which the United States bought Alaska from Russian, signed on March 30, 1867.

Alaska Day October 18 Alaska Day is the anniversary of the formal transfer of the territory and the raising of the US. flag at Sitka on October 18, 1867.

Now you know how slow things can be on Columbus Day - wonder if it is slow at Dawnie's bank on Seward's Day?

It wasn't slow around here today! I had 2 complaint letters and 2 OFAC checks sent in over the weekend. But it was nice to have a lunch meeting (with lunch provided)

A holiday is a day to get things done without the phone ringing off the hook.

Nice to have a day where the phone rings only half as much. However, my recent reading supports the idea that there are better people with far greater connections to U.S. history to celebrate.
