Is there a limit to the amount we can charge for a renewal fee?

We have a loan officer who has charged a $75.00 renewal fee for a $600.00 single pay loan. I know there are limits to the amount you can charge the customer on $1,000.00 or less loans that has a maturity of 12 months or less at origination, but I didn't know if this also applied to renewal fees.

It would also depend under which statute your bank lends money. However, we lend under the Credit Card State Bank rules except for small, single-pay loans then we use the TILT rules. (We do not charge a renewal fee on small, single-pay loans.

I recommend a fee matrix chart, incorporating state and fed laws.
