First of all, in the most polite way possible, I would suggest before someone makes fun of you, don't call it an iTouch. It's an "iPod touch." smile

Second of all, Welcome to the Social! (Just kidding.) Congratulations. I have an iPod touch and I really love it, although I'll be giving it up for an iPhone in a couple of months when my T-Mobile account runs out.

First of all, you know that you need a wi-fi connection to access the internet, right?

My favorite iPod/iPhone applications in not particular order are:

1. Ambiance
2. Bloom
3. Evernote
4. Notebook
5. iNews
6. Classics
7. Eucalyptus
8. i.TV
9. Sol Free
10. The Weather Channel
11. EZ News
12. Facebook
13. AppMiner
14. iBird
15. At Bat Lite
16. Pandora
17. Last.fm
18. Wolfgang's Concert Vault
19. Notebook
20. To Do
21. wikiHow
22. Wikipanion

I have a lot more, but those are the ones I use the most, except for the Safari, Mail, App Store, and other apps that come with the device.

I forgot about I Can Haz Cheezburger.

I tried really hard to get Stanza to work, but I never could get the books to transfer correctly. I gave up and now I use Eucalyptus and it works great.

Bugs, First of all, I call mine an iTouchBecca it makes me giggle everytime I plug it in.

My current applications that I use in no particular order are (I left it in the car - what was I thinking - so the names may not be right):

-The Weather Channel
-Facebook
-Oregon trail
-Nike (use the nike chip in your shoe to track runs)
-Tick-tack-toe (great for playing with the little one)
-Lemonaide tycoon
-Letter tracer (also for the little one)
-Weight tracker - this name isn't right. It's an app that includes how to's of many workouts in the gym. It may be called iworkout.
-ipoints (for weight watchers)
-WSJ - my favorite
-Classics (a book reader with classic novels)
-Barnes and Noble reader
-Scrabble

I'm aware of the needed wifi.. I have one set up around my house and there's one at the gym. It's for my wife so she'll be good.. I just need to set it all up for her. $10 for an update lol..

I'm not sure what many of those apps do so I'll have to look them up once I get home =) But Pandora stood out right away! I love Pandora radio and have heard of last.fm.

Depending on how I like the iTouch U I may get one for myself but might wait for a next gen. If not those new Zune HD's look pretty dang nice! $100 cheaper too.. I've never listened to HD Radio but it comes with the Zune.

She'll love the e-reader but where do you get the books from? Amazon?? Are they pricey?

Has anyone ripped movies and tried putting them in? I'm afraid they'd take up way too much space? If that's the case does iTunes compress the shows and movies down to a smaller portable size??

The movies are usually more than a gig each, so you can't just keep it full of flicks all the time without removing old ones and adding newer ones.

And be careful with those dvds with digital copy movies, they have DRM that locks the copy to ONE device, so if you put the movie on your wife's touch, you can't add to yours later without going through alot of hassle. It's better to google and learn how to rip movies from discs without drm problems, it will also save money in the long run.

We get cartoons and Sesame street all the time, they are great for car rides! They must compress them.

The Barnes and Noble reader, you actually have to have an online B&N account. You buy the books online, then get on the itouch wink and read them. But I don't understand why the books cost what they do. I just got an ebook for $9.00. But I could have bought the paperback copy for $6. There's no overhead, or is there?, so I don't understand the cost structure enough. It's a new app for me and I am still playing with it.

No me gusto DRM. All our saved movies are drm free.. She really just wanted Twilight movie on there (bleh) and was wondering if the iTunes one would be under a gig.. If iTunes sells movies?

Forgot about tunewiki! You can look through the music on your device and it will show you the lyrics in time with the music.

Yes, itunes sells movies and tv shows and apps through the itunes store. The movies are drm'd, but you get to put it on each device linked to that version of itunes i beleive.
