What sources are available to compare the performance (profit, loss, ROI, ROA) of one bank to other similar banks? Any companies offering to do this?

Check out the FDIC's functions for this at http://www.fdic.gov/bank/index.html . Excellent comparisons can be done here.

The OCC also has BankNet which does similar things but with better details on some balance sheet items. BankNet requires an authorization from the OCC to use.

Both these are free.
