Then teach your kids how to behave in public, or take them home when they start to act up, or better yet, leave them at home with a sitter in the first place, if they cannot be controlled in public.

I could not agree more that kids should be taught to behave, be polite, and be mindful of others, but sometimes things don't go as planned.

So, why don't *you* stay home if people in public annoy you?

Why should I... I am not the one throwing a conniption fit in the local Walmart.

... and sometimes things don't go as planned, so you take the steps to change the situtation so as not to annoy others, as they are not there to listen to your screaming misbehaving child, by taking them to the restroom until they calm down, or simply put down what you have a leave the store, just like our parents did with us.

I don't disagree with the parents taking the necessary steps to quiet their child, but that is life.

Nothing bothers me more than a lax parent letting their kid run around nuts in a store (or like in the gym last night), and it makes me want to smack around THE PARENTS for not doing the right thing, but it's a free country (well, for a little while yet) and there are ALWAYS going to be moronic parents not disciplining their kids appropriately.

No, it wasn't.
Kids aren't perfect- no one is for that matter.
Who hasn't had or seen a kid crying in public. So what! The mother was trying to soothe her anyhow.
No one has the right to do what that guy did.

He should sit in jail for awhile. He also should take anger management classes.

What if he had a gun and killed that kid? He has issues.

I can't stand a screaming, crying, little spoiled brat anymore than the next person...I am thankful that my boys behaved as well as they did (when they were younger whistle ) when we were in public..but sometimes *stuff* just happens that a young child/baby cries or becomes upset and the parent tries to cope with the situation the best they can. The rest of us can deal with it and appreciate the fact that (at that very moment) we are not that parent. eek

I agree. Still, why can I not be annoyed by it??

I wish more parents wouldn't be so afraid to take a wooden spoon around their childs backside once in awhile and teach them a lesson, or drag them out of a store crying and actually give them something to cry about as they are digging their nails into their childs wrists.

I actually blame a lot of this on the public schools over teaching kids about what 'abuse' is, and unfortunately giving the child the upper hand when it comes to discipline. I vividly recall the day my 6 year old brother came home from school and proudly telling our parents that he learned the next time they spank him he will be calling the police.

And now those same kids are the parents that are all to afraid to take control and deal with their own children.

The guy would've been on the ground clutching his groin before he ever laid a hand on my child. In fact, I'd have put him on the ground just for uttering the threat.

FINALLY ABOVE the gnat line
The child was 2 years old - not much you can do at that age except take the child home. That idiot man would have found himself in serious pain the first time he struck my child - much less 4 or 5 times! I would have found store security when he threatened the first time.

Kid wonder and I have taken some trips to the bathroom in various stores around town when she was younger for disciplinary purposes. She soon learned that throwing a fit in the store was one sure way NOT to get what she wants.
