Lots of people are mentioning Legos as a sure hit--I am cautioning here that not all boys love Legos. My now 10-year old son has never liked them and never would play with them at all.

I agree with the person who said, for that age group, Bakugan is very popular with boys right now.

We often bought gift cards--Barnes & Noble is a personal favorite, but kids love one from just about anywhere. Someplace as "ordinary" as Walmart is a treasure trove for a kid with his own money to buy whatever he wants!

JJ wanted me to post Barbies as another idea of his. He said that he was too embarrassed to post it himself.

I think Legos are so expensive because they aren't produced in China like every other child's toy!

IIRC they are made in Sweden or another one of those cold European countries smile

I 2nd the gift card idea as well as find a game - kids love games especially those little hand held electronic ones you can get at Walmart inexpensively!

He could probably use a PS3 with Madden '10 and Rock Band with all the instruments, the triple cymbal adapter and double base pedal for the drums.

I think you have some good suggestions. I know with our son (or daughter for that matter)we would normally ask them what does little Johnny or Susies like. If they did not know, we woud look at the invitation, if that didn't give a clue, we (the wife)would call the parent and say something like "Josh would realy like to get something for Johnny, what is he into these days".

Far as good toys, the Hotwheels are always cool, nerf items (balls, guns, etc), lego (my son can't get enough of these), transformers are hot now.

In your case you may also want to get your son an NFL jersey of some team, any team, other than the Lions (well, maybe not the Bengals)

Father of a 6 year old here. My kid likes legos too, also Bakagan, Pokemon, Transformers, Hot Wheels, and gift cards. But, I can tell you that each of his friends has different interests so it is best to check.

You don't know how great it is to hear that the bear is in school and doing so well!

You see, I had the plate in my head replaced with plastic

When the wife fired up the microwave I peed my pants and forgot who I was for an hour

Legos blocks are good for ages 5-15, at least.
