well, I'm glad we've stopped this boondoggle that will enrich many construction firms overseas. I'd rather us keep the money at home, which will allow us to still spend as a boondoggle, but it will be our boondoggle enriching our companies! Take a look at the USA Today article on regional airports in today's edition for a great place that we can put another $20 billion!

Did we defeat it, or just become a shadow of it? If anything it looks the the world is moving more toward a social/communism police state than it is towards liberty and freedom. What are all the communist countries doing? Infusing a little capitalism, but keeping their populace under the government's thumb. What's happened in "democratic/capitlist" countries? Unprecedented government expansion, theft through taxation and big government, and more surveillance and security over the people. Personally, I feel less free than I did 10 years ago, and I have to go through more government red tape than ever before.

If the assertions laid out by Gates prove correct — if, in particular, Iran is not developing a long-range missile as quickly as previously assumed — then the revised missile defense system in Europe makes military sense. Gates says it could be adapted later to meet a long-range missile threat if that emerges.

Gates' explanation did little to shield the administration from a barrage of political strikes by Republicans who portrayed Obama's shift as a weak-kneed capitulation to Russia and an abandonment of U.S. allies.

Before Gates had even finished his news conference, House Republican leader John Boehner of Ohio issued a statement accusing Obama of a "willful determination to continue ignoring the threat posed by some of the most dangerous regimes in the world." He said Obama had sold out the allies and empowered Iran."
