Existing loan customer comes in wanting a new loan. We don't have them complete an application. Can we pull a credit report to see outstanding debts just because they have existing loans or do we have to have them complete an application or some other form in order to pull a report? Loan ended up being denied and the credit report is attached to the denial form.

There is no law that states you have to have a written application in order to pull a credit report. You took a verbal application which should have been documented by the loan officer.

Also, consider this. If the request involves a purchase or refi of purchase money on 1-4 owner-occupied property, a written application is required. (not to pull credit, but just that a written app is required)
