Not any more. It seems like most grandmas are getting their hair colored these days. I've been noticing more and more gray-haired men with women who appear to be close their age, but who have no grey hair. smile

My Grandma is the best... she taught me how to play poker (and kept the pot when she won!), and I taught her how to drive cool

My grandmother used to bake the best chocolate layer cake with fudge frosting. Sometimes she'd call me and ask if I knew of anyone who might want one. I miss those calls. frown

I miss spending time on my grandparents farm. Grandma always put out enough food to feed an army. She made the best sugar cookies that I have never been able to find her recipe. At christmas, she had all sorts of goodies made, it must have taken her weeks to do but she wanted all her grandchildren to have their favorite.

That's the way my grandmother and, until recently, my mother have been. Not me! My poor grandchildren.

I never know either of my Grandfathers, they both passed away before I was born, but I have lots of pictures of them and feel as if I know them. My Mom's mother died just before my 5th birthday, and my Dad's mother died when I was 19. This just made me sad!

My Babcia was my idol. I've tried to be the woman, mother and grandmother she was. Hopefully I'll get a crack at emulating her as a greatgrandmother too. Just writing this brings tears to my eyes. After all these years, I still miss her.

only if I want to....
Nothing like them...I especially remember my pawpaw. He was kind, hard working, with a robust laugh. He was a Police Sergeant and sherriff, so he used to take us all out riding in the woods teaching us about the trees and the ways of the land as well as showing us the old "stills" he busted up when he was Policing. We would run up and down the hills and through the trees until we couldn't catch our breath, then sit by the river stream and listen to him tell us all his war stories and try to teach us about being good decent young men & women when we got older and how to handle the tough days that would come our way.

When we got home later that night my grandmother would have us a wonderful garden cooked meal and we'd sit around the table laughing about the day...then retire to the front porch swing that night and talk some more...maybe stopping to catch some lightening bugs or play hiding seek. We did this so many weekends when I was growing up!!!

You said it Truff...for me, I know I will never be a fraction of the person my grandparents were...that is if I am ever blessed to be a grandparent, but oh what a privilege to have known them and to share those kind of wonderful times and life. smile

Thanks for this thread and allowing us to remember what really were to me...the good ole days! smile
