My sil has been living with Polysistic Kidney Disease and now is near kidney failure. The damage is the result of high blood pressure disease that a dr decided was a result of the other disease. She is on the transplant list and has begun the process. Her husband is hoping that he is a match. I have know my sil for more than 40 years, she is like a sister to me and this is breaking my heart.

I'm asking the prayer warriors here in the couch to please add her to your prayer list.

Corky, I know how terrible this disease is.. I have a sister in law who has it, too. This disease can be passed on through heredity.. I hope if they have kids, they have been checked. One of her two girls has it. Peggy has been on dialysis for quite some time, and she, too, is on the transplant list. I hope for her that they find a match. Yet another example of why organ donation is so important.

Corky,

Adding your SIL to my prayer list. May God keep her strong until a match can be found to heal her.

Corky,
I am praying that her hubby is the perfect match for the perfect gift. As we near Natalie's 5th transplant anniversary, I am thankful that you had my back during our lowest. And pray that I may do the same for you.

Also, you may want to check with the user known as Pale. He has a great deal of experience in the kindney transplant area, if I am correct, and may be a valuable resource for you.

Is she close by to you, I can't remember.

My sil's oldest daughter was diagnosed a couple of years ago with this also and was very angry at her mother for a few months. Part of the acceptance process I would imagine.

All my husbands family live in Pittsburgh but we are especially close to this sister and her husband. My dear hubby was pretty down all weekend, hit him kinda hard.

Thanks for your prayers and kind words. They help me and I know the prayers will help her.

I talked to her over the weekend. She is hanging in there but before they even begin testing to make sure she is healthy enough for surgery & if her husband is a close enough match etc they are conducting a "financial investigation" - - even though she has medical insurance.

So if she couldn't afford it she would just be told, "we are sorry but we can't do anything to help save your life"????!!!!

Corky,
That is a standard for transplant.
The financial investigation allows the insuance company and the hospital to come up with a contract for the total amount to be billed. It is not an investigation of your sister-in-law's records, per our own experience with the ins and outs of transplant, but of her insurance coverage.

The insurance co will then sign off on this contract with the hospital and will gurarantee that your sister will not be billed above the amount on the contract.

Your SIL MUST have conversation with the finance coordinator for transplants at her hospital. They will help to make it all clear to her. We had meeting after meeting after meeting in this regard with our finance people. Please push her in that direction. Also encourage her to call her insurance's plan administrator on her own.

Also, Corky, please feel free to call me with transplant questions. Especially of this nature. You know we've been through heck and back, and kept good records of it all.

Thanks for the info, makes more sense now. I want to call her this week just to check in so I'll see how things are going and let her know your experience if nothing has progressed.
